Commercial Space Travel Milestones:
  • July 27, 2005 - Sir Richard Branson and Burt Rutan form 'The Spaceship Company' to jointly manufacture and market spaceships for the new sub-orbital personal spaceflight industry.
  • October 4, 2004 - SpaceShipOne breaks the X-15 altitude record and wins the Ansari X PRIZE.
  • June 21, 2004 - SpaceShipOne makes history by becoming the first private manned mission to space, signaling the beginning of the commercial space travel era.
  • April 30, 2001 - Dennis Tito, the world's first space tourist, arrived at the International Space Station aboard a Russian Soyuz rocket.
